My research mainly focuses on Human-Robot Spatial Communication at the intersection of Robotics, XR, and 3D Computer Vision.


Recently, I presented my work “A Voxel-based Grid Coordinate for Virtual Object Positioning in Outdoor Mobile Augmented Reality” at IEEE VR 2026 Posters. In this work, I proposed a voxel-based surface grid coordinate system that bridges human-friendly spatial references and geographic coordinates for outdoor mobile AR.

My background includes:

  • ML in Industrial Time Series (with POSCO), AR + HCI (Master’s thesis and IEEE VR Poster), VLM, and Medical AI.

I have a few ideas for future research directions:

  1. HRI + XR
    • I am interested in how robots can use XR to actively generate spatial cues, such as anchors or grids, to support collaborative grounding in free space. More broadly, I want to explore interaction designs that make human-robot spatial communication more negotiable, transparent, and aligned with human perception.
    • I submitted a 4 page short paper to HRI 2026 LRB (I got a good review on ideas, but it was not accepted due to the lack of actual experiments), and I am planning to keep working on it into a full paper.

  2. City-scale spatial representations for human-robot communication
    • I am also interested in extending surface-level spatial representations toward city-scale environments, where humans and robots need to communicate about locations across multiple levels of scale. This direction asks how large outdoor spaces can be structured into representations that remain both machine-usable and human-understandable.
